The Dale Family Genealogy Pages

Discovering our North American and European Ancestors

Welcome To Our Family Story!

Quite a few years ago I developed an interest in our family genealogy. I think it started about 1968 when dad and I hiked to the long abandoned Bird family cemetery north of Florence, NE to find the graves of a couple distant relatives. The stones belonged to George and Elizabeth Bird and family. From the Elizabeth Bird obituary published in the Omaha World Herald May 12, 1908. "In February of 1856, with her husband, she came to this country. It became a dream of his life to found a home by the Missouri river. They joined a wagon train of Mormons bound for Florence. Mr Bird driving one of the teams. When they reached here, Omaha was a little village composed of a half dozen houses made of cottonwood slabs, while Florence was much larger, with its camp of Mormons and its supply station. For a year they lived in Florence, and then went to Genoa, where they took a homestead. Hardly had they gotten their crops planted than they were driven back to Florence by the Indians".

A few years later the Bird family was joined by two nephews, George Bird Dale and Noah Thomas Dale from England. Sons of Noah Dale (pictured to the left) and Elizabeth Nurse Dale. Grandsons of Benjamin Dale and Sara Bird Dale. Noah and Elizabeth had seven kids. Two months after the last one (Herbert) was born, Elizabeth passed away. One was nine and the other twelve when they made the trip from England to Florence, NE. Quite a young age to travel that distance. They were raised by George and Elizabeth along with their nine other children. Noah Dale and Louise (Zeigler) Dale are pictured to the right. Louise Zeigler was "the girl next door". They were married in March 29, 1891 and moved to Hartington where Noah worked for the M & O Railroad.

While in Hartington, Noah and Louise had six children. Benjamin, Mae, Harvey, Baby, Frederick, and Nellie. One child was stillborn and Harvey and Mae Died young of diabetes.

This web site is dedicated to the early Dale family members that endeavored to scratch out a living on the plains of Nebraska.

So, please make yourself at home and feel free to add names, dates, documents, photos and stories to the site. This is a work in progress. I have many documents and photos to add so check back often. And please bring any mistakes I have made to my attention
